The seventeenth entrant, and what it takes to let them in

Every event is free with every tool up to 16 entrants. The seventeenth is the one thing that is refused, and four different things lift it. Plus lifts it for events in the groups you run yourself, at €3.99 a month.

Free to 16. What the seventeenth costs, and which of the four routes you want.

Good to know, in numbers.

The one line: sixteen entrants

An entrant is one entry: a player in singles, a pair in doubles, a player on a ladder, a team in a competition’s season. Every tournament, league, ladder and competition is free up to 16 of them, with every tool included, which covers essentially every friend group, neighbourhood ladder and four-court social evening.

There is one line and it is the same line in all seven sports. Groups are not limited, members are not limited, a club’s register is not limited, and the number of events you run is not limited. The only thing counted is how many entries one event has.

What crossing the line actually refuses

Exactly one write: the entry that would be the seventeenth. Nothing else. No entrant is ever removed, an event already above the line is never touched, no draw is refused, no result is refused, and no table, page or reading of anything is refused.

The person who could not get in is told the event is full. The organiser is told that somebody wanted in, which is the moment the question of paying actually arises. And a plan that lapses keeps every record and every page: the line simply comes back.

What Plus lifts, and what it does not

Plus lifts the size of events in the groups you run yourself. That is the case it is for: one person organising for their friends, a summer league of twenty, a ladder that filled up.

It does not lift the event day. Courts and the schedule, the order of play with times, the desk, check-in, the printed sheets and the live boards are free up to 16 entrants, and above that they belong to the event rather than to a person. That is why a €3.99 plan does not open a desk for a sixty-player open, and why a one-off organiser can buy a €19 pass instead of a subscription.

Which of the four you want

Four things lift the size of an event, and the right one depends on whom the event belongs to rather than on how big it is.

  • SetMatcher Plus, €3.99 a month: bigger events in groups you run yourself, without the event day.
  • An event pass, €19 once for one tournament: any size, with the whole event day, attached to that event and never expiring.
  • SetMatcher Club, €39.00 a month: every event the club owns at any size with the whole event day, for everybody on the committee.
  • Paid entry: the entries pay for it, so both of the event’s lines are lifted and our share is 5% plus €0.30 of each entry fee.
